Mao Junfa

Chancellor

Junfa Mao was born in Aug. 1965. He received the B.S. degree in radiation physics from the National University of Defense Technology, China, in 1985, the M.S. degree in experimental nuclear physics from Shanghai Institute of Nuclear Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in 1992. He was a faculty member with Shanghai Jiao Tong University from July 1992 to January 2022, the Dean of the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering from Feb. 2013 to June 2018, the Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University from June 2018 to Dec. 2021, the President of Shenzhen University from Dec. 2021 to Jan. 2026. He has been the Chancellor of Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology since June 2026. He was a visiting scholar with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, from 1994 to 1995, and a post-doctoral researcher with the University of California at Berkeley, USA, from 1995 to 1996.


Junfa Mao is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Science, the director of State Key Laboratory of Radio Frequency Heterogeneous Integration, Shenzhen University, a member of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee of China, a Fellow and Vice Chairman of Chinese Institute of Electronics (CIE), the director of the Microwave Society of CIE. He is an IEEE Fellow, was a member of the 2012–2014 IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society Fellow Evaluation Committee and the 2015 IEEE Fellow Committee.


His research interests include the interconnect, components and package problem of high speed and radio frequency integrated circuits and systems. He has authored or coauthored 600 papers (including 200 IEEE journal papers). He was a recipient of the National Natural Science Award of China in 2004, the National Technology Invention Award of China in 2008, the National Science and Technology Advancement Award of China in 2012 and 2023, the National Award of Teaching in 2005 and 2018, the Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress of Chinese Universities in 2020, and many best paper awards of international conferences.


Aaron Ciechanover

Special Envoy of the Technion President to GTIIT

Prof. Aaron Ciechanover was born in Haifa, Israel in 1947. He is a distinguished research professor in the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. He received his M.Sc. (1971) and M.D. (1973) from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He then completed his national service (1973-1976) as a military physician, after which he continued his studies and obtained his doctorate degree in biological sciences in the Faculty of Medicine in the Technion (D.Sc. 1982). At that time, Prof. Aaron Ciechanover was a graduate student under Dr. Avram Hershko and in collaboration with Dr. Irwin A. Rose from the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, USA, when they discovered that covalent attachment of ubiquitin to a target protein signals it for degradation. After deciphering the mechanism of conjugation, they described the general proteolytic functions of the system and proposed a model according to which this modification serves as a recognition signal for a specific downstream protease. As a post-doctoral fellow with Dr. Harvey Lodish at the M.I.T., he continued his studies on the ubiquitin system and made additional important discoveries. Along the years it has become clear that ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis plays major roles in numerous cellular processes, and aberrations in the system underlie the pathogenetic mechanisms of many diseases, among them certain malignancies and neurodegenerative disorders. Consequently, the system has become an important platform for drug development.


Among the numerous prizes Ciechanover has received are the 2000 Albert Lasker Award, the 2003 Israel Prize, and the 2004 Nobel Prize (Chemistry; shared with Drs. Hershko and Rose). Among many academies, Ciechanover is member of the Israeli National Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (Foreign Fellow), the American Philosophical Society, the National Academy of Sciences of the USA and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of the USA (Foreign Associate), the Pontifical Academy of Sciences at the Vatican, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS; Foreign Member), and the Russian Academy of Sciences (Foreign Member).  



Eli Aljadeff

Vice Chancellor

Eli Aljadeff  is a chair-holder professor in the Mathematics department at the Technion and an employee at GTIIT for teaching and research. Eli is in charge of the mathematics program at GTIIT.


Prof. Aljadeff received his Ph.D in mathematics from Tel Aviv University in Israel in 1988. He arrived to the Technion in 1990. Between 2015 and 2018 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics at the Technion.


He was a visiting professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in USA, Insitute for advanced mathematical research in Strasbourg, France, University of Murcia in Spain and University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.


Eli is an algebtraist, working on topics as polynomial identities and group gradings on algebras, Brauer groups, group cohomology and division algebras.




Moris S. Eisen

Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Prof. Eisen received his PhD from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem under the supervision of the late Prof. Jochanan Blum. In 1990 as a Weizmann Postdoctoral Fellow, he joined Prof. Tobin J. Marks' group at Northwestern University. In 1993 he was awarded the State of Israel Alon Fellowship and joined the Department of Chemistry at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technolog (in 2007, changes its name to the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry). Since 2003 he has been a full Professor incumbent of the Samuel O. Friedlander Academic Chair in Chemistry.

 

Prof. Eisen is the Head of the Institute of Catalysis Science and Technology at the Technion – Israel Institute of technology. He is member of the Israel Chemical Society and the American Chemical Society. Since the year 2000, he has been invited to give courses in Germany, USA, Mexico, India and China. He served for seven years as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry for Graduate and Undergraduate Teaching Affairs. He served as a member of the Advisory Board for the National Journal "The Chemist in Israel", a member of the International Advisory Board for the Journal "Main Group Metal Chemistry" and a member of the International Advisory Board for the Journal "Reviews in Inorganic Chemistry". He is a member of the Water Institute at the Technion. He served as a member of the National Committee for Chemistry at the Ministry of Education, and served as a member of the Advisory Committee for the Samuel Neeman Institute for Advanced Studies at the Technion.


His research interests include the organometallic chemistry of the actinide and group-4 metals and their use in catalytic processes, the use of hydrophobic-hydrophilic membranes for the treatment of polluted waters (a start-up company is based on his patent – Memtech), and the design of trapping polymers to clean the dialysis solution from a Weareable Artifitial Kidney (WAK).  He has authored over 400 publications, including journal, patents, conference papers, and book chapters. Prof. Eisen has mentored over 50 students (Masters, Doctorate and Post-Doctorate).

Holds a BA in Economics and an MBA from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.


Queena Yi

Pro-Vice Chancellor for Development

Dr. Queena YI received her PhD from the Nanjing International Studies University ( with one-year Visiting PhD in the Foreign Languages Institute of Nanjing University funded by the national PhD studies program) and was a post-doctoral fellow on translation studies at Shanghai Jiaotong University.


Dr. YI is Chairperson and legal person of GTIIT Education Foundation Shantou, while serving once as Director of University’s Office and Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor successively at GTIIT. She was the Provincial Woman Pace-setter of Guangdong (2019).


Dr. YI has long been engaged in teaching and research in sinology, translation poetics, English translation of Chinese poetry, etc. She is Director of China Education Association for International Exchange, Deputy Director General of the Sino-foreign cooperation in Education  Research Branch of Guangdong Higher Education Association, Member of Jiangsu Translators Association, and Member of Nanjing Translation Association, having published more than 10 translated works  and translated more than 3 million words.

 


Gao Jian

Pro-Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Ph.D. in Education (Xiamen University), Professor at Shantou University. 


Prof. Gao has long been engaged in higher education administration and research, with extensive experience in Party affairs, student management, and admissions through various roles at Shantou University's Human Resources Office, Research Office, International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Business School, Zhicheng College, and International College. He has led 4 provincial/ministerial research projects (>¥1M funding), published multiple SSCI/SCI papers, authored 2 monographs, and won 2 First-Class Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards.


Moshe Eizenberg

Dean of Graduate Studies

Professor Moshe Eizenberg is on the faculty of the Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, and a member of Technion's Solid State Institute and Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute. He received his BSc and PhD degrees in physics from the Technion, where he has participated extensively in academic and administrative life. Among his many activities and positions, Prof. Eizenberg served as Dean (Chairman) of the Department of Materials Engineering, and most notably as the Technion's Executive Vice President for Research. In that capacity, he was Chairman of the Board of both the Technion Entrepreneurial Incubator Company and Dimotech Ltd. (a holding company for the Technion's start-up industries), and served as Managing Director of the Technion Research & Development Foundation Ltd. In addition, Prof. Eizenberg served on the Technion International Board of Governors and the Technion Council.


Prof. Eizenberg conducts research is in the areas of electronic materials, thin films and semiconductors with the aim of developing new materials and fabrication methods to create more advanced micro- and nano-electronic devices.




Dganit Danino

Dean of Undergraduate Studies

Prof. Danino completed her Engineering, MSc and PhD studies in Chemical Engineering at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. In 2002, after 2 years of postdoctoral training at NIDDK, NIH she joined the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering and the Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute at the Technion, where she is heading the CryoEM Laboratory of soft Matter. Prof. Danino was a visiting scholar for the year 2012-2013 at SEAS, Physics Department, Harvard University, and at Chemical and Biological Engineering, Koch Institute, MIT, and at the KAVIL Institute for Theoretical Physics, University of California, Santa Barbara (Winter 2016). She was 4 years the President of the Israel Society for Microscopy (ISM) and is at present the President of the European Colloid and Interface Society (ECIS). She is a Section Editor in Current Opinion in Colloids and Interface Science (COCIS) from 2004 and Editor in Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces since 2013.


For more than 20 years Prof. Danino is using, developing and educating cryoEM methodologies, including Cryo-TEM, Cryo-SEM, Freeze-fracture and now also Cryo-Tomography. Her research is focused on uncovering mechanisms of self-assembly of soft materials and 1D structures, the development of drug-delivery vehicles, and analyzing the structure of milk and milk proteins, and large GTPases. Dganit co authored more than 135 research articles, review papers and book chapters.
